Arrest Rights Every Citizen Should Know
Rights During Arrest Under Indian Law
When you are arrested in India, you have fundamental rights guaranteed under Article 22 of the Constitution. These include the right to know the grounds of arrest, right to consult and be defended by a lawyer, right to be produced before a magistrate within 24 hours, and right to free legal aid. The D.K. Basu guidelines also require police to inform a family member about the arrest.
